Molecular Stethoscope is an early-stage molecular diagnostics company engaged in transcriptomic research and development in San Diego, California. Our mission is to improve patient health through the development of cutting-edge molecular tests. We are looking for a Scientist with a strong background in RNA based molecular diagnostics. As a Scientist, you will have the opportunity to be an integral part of a multi-disciplinary team and assist in the development of our current and future product pipeline. You will be responsible for supporting the development of assays/processes that adhere to clinical quality and regulatory guidelines. The successful candidate is expected to conduct his/her job responsibilities with a high degree accuracy and professionalism.

Tasks and Responsibilities

  • Development of a variety of assays for various platforms including RT-qPCR, microarray and Next Generation Sequencing
  • Develop, characterize and optimize assay protocols and reagents
  • Recognize problems, understand and troubleshoot assays in an individual and team setting
  • Analyze large complex data sets with statistical methodology
  • Analyze test results from various sources, develop comprehensive technical recommendations
  • Research and innovate new technologies
  • Drive implementation of solutions and deliver results in a fast-paced, dynamic product development environment
  • Perform other duties as assigned as an integral member of the team

Position Requirements & Experience

  • Track record of creativity and productivity, successfully solving highly complex novel scientific problems, as evidenced by a strong publication record and/or patent history
  • Ph.D in Molecular Biology or Biochemistry from a top academic institution
  • Extensive experience with circulating nucleic acids, single cell sequencing, FFPE transcriptomic research and/or other challenging areas
  • Experience with RNA based molecular assays
  • Commercial assay development experience, preferred
  • Excellent troubleshooting and experimental design skills required
  • Experience analyzing data from various sources: Arrays, qPCR, NGS desired
  • Proven track record working in individual and team environments
  • Strong communication skills, demonstrated by seminars, etc.

  • D in Molecular Biology or Biochemistry from a top academic institution
  • 3-5 years of experience beyond PhD; commercial assay development experience preferred
  • Proven track record of successful development; launch of commercial products preferred
  • Track record of creativity, productivity and success solving highly complex novel scientific problems, as evidenced by a strong publication record and/or patent history
  • Extensive experience with circulating nucleic acids, single-cell sequencing, FFPE transcriptomic research and/or other challenging areas with the associated analytical and bioinformatics knowledge to prepare results
  • NGS and/or qPCR based automation platform use, maintenance and configuration is desirable
  • RNA based molecular assay experience
  • Excellent troubleshooting and experimental design skills required
  • Experience analyzing data from various sources: Arrays, qPCR, NGS desired
  • Proven track record of productive work in individual and team environments
  • Strong communication skills, demonstrated by seminars, poster presentations, etc.
  • Experience in management of scientific staff preferred
  • Local candidates preferred
